Our journey began on
September 10, 1985, in Sudan, with a visit from HRH Prince El-Hassan bin Talal,
that aimed to assess the negative impact
of drought and desertification as well as the challenges and difficulties
imposed by the influx of refugees from neighboring countries. With Jordan’s
duty towards Sudan at the forefront, the prince made an appeal to the Arab and
Islamic worlds to unite their efforts and provide all the possible support and
assistance to their brethren in Sudan.
Accordingly, the Jordanian
National Committee for Solidarity with the Sudanese People was formed under the
chairmanship of Prince Hassan, with members including government officials and
industry leaders in Jordan, working to implement numerous relief and
developmental projects in Sudan from 1985 to 1990.
To consolidate its previous
achievements and in line with directives from His Majesty the late King Hussein
bin Talal, may his soul rest in peace, and with the active follow up by Prince
Hassan, the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization for Relief, Development
and Arab and Islamic Cooperation was established on the thirteenth of Jumada
al-Akhira 1412 AH, January 10, 1990, to encompass all committees and bodies
that focus on humanitarian relief and charitable work and support those less
fortunate in Jordan and abroad, in addition to enriching voluntary charitable
activities and increase the number of local supporters.
Today, the journey
continues.
